Bumbling into Tuesday・火曜日へ飛びころんじゃった

Meg getting her spa on. メッグちゃんのスパデー。

Yesterday was another day without using a smartphone. I can still feel myself relaxing slowly with each passing day, and honestly I’m pretty happy with it overall.

There are still some bumps along the road – like how I would reach Scott if I was in an emergency – but so far they haven’t been too crazy or undoable.

That’s gotta hurt. めちゃ痛そう🥲

We did discover a different kind of bump during chicken recess though. We do a weekly check-in on all ten of our birds feet and body conditions, and hoo boy we had a WHOPPER of a discovery on Meg. The sole pad of her poor right foot was taken over by a bumble – which is a solidified kernel of pus that grows when bacteria manages to get into tears in the skin. They usually grow on the feet of chickens and other birds, and some get so nasty that they need surgical removal.

(Left to right) Meg, Chi-chan, and Nut all got post-bumble booties when they had removal surgery in Spring 2025.

This is honestly a common occurrence for Meg. She in particular is very susceptible to getting bumbles, and once every few months or so we have to remove them and soak her feet for a few days to help keep the area clean and aid healing. This one was a CHONKER, and I am shocked that we didn’t have to take her to the vet to get it removed like we did in spring 2025.

The bumble, once removed.

But in any case, the offending pus was removed and her foot is now clean, vet wrapped, and on the mend. Meg is surprisingly good at communicating with us about how she is feeling, and she has been telling us for a few weeks now that something was up, but we couldn’t find anything until yesterday. Clever girl.
