Listen, I know what you’re thinking.
“Abisensei, it’s not even Halloween yet and you’re buying Christmas decorations already?”
Yes.
Yes I am.
But hear me out.
My partner and I stopped into our local Tractor Supply Co. store for some odds and ends to help start winterizing our chicken run and secure our electrical situation a little better. I was thinking of looking to see if they had some poultry drinker nipples with little cups on the ends (not as weird as it sounds, I assure you!) when I was blinded by an ethereal light that could only be the early coming of the Christmas spirit.
I gasped at what I saw: the PERFECT Holiday decoration.
An old-school blow mold Christmas Chicken.
Oh. My. God.
It was like the world shook. I don’t think I have ever felt this much joy in finding a Christmas decoration. It was like the universe conspired to make the little girl in my chicken lady heart incredibly happy. We also don’t really do Christmas in our house but something inside the minds of both my partner and I broke and we had to have it.
And at $29.99 USD? Not bad TSC, not bad at all!
The ride home with the plastic chicken embodiment of the Christmas spirit was just as surreal as finding her in the store. Every time we hit a bump, made a turn, or for seemingly no reason at all she would light up with a warm cheery glow. Was it because her “Try Me!” button was jammed under her, or was it holiday magic guiding us? We will never know.
I’ve named her Christina in honor of the holiday and am currently thinking of a good place to put her on display. I believe the bench on our front porch fits the bill, but until the snow starts falling and the bells start jingling she waits patiently indoors with us.
